Spectators attend the 76th annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York on 22 November 2017

Thousands of people gathered to watch the 76th annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York on 22 November 2017.

Actors and athletes lined the route of the parade, which featured 17 floats including a variety of floats, marching bands, one featuring singer John Legend and his dogs, plus the penguin characters from Animal Planet’s hit series “Penguins of Madagascar”.

There were four million people who lined the streets to witness the parade.

America’s biggest department store Macy’s bills the event as the world’s largest. In November 2017, the 74th parade, which was also in New York, attracted one million spectators.

Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade was held on 22 November 2017.

The colourful procession of float made a welcome return after a 20-year absence, following the disclosure that a virus had been discovered in its production that forced it to shut down.

New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio stated that it “is the culmination of the day to end the day”.

From 2016, the parade was only held one day a year.
